The restoration of the Kazinczy street Grand synagogue

The Hungarian orthodoxy is in grave danger! Our finances are in ruins, our religious life is under threat of discontinuation, and our properties are in tragic states! Whatever that was not destroyed during the Shoah was ruined during the communist occupation, then even deteriorated further under poor management. We require aid to survive! The storied 150-year history of our communities must not end!

Introduction of the project

One of Central-Europe’s most beautiful synagogues is currently in a dire state! The restoration of our synagogue that was built in 1913 and can house more than 1 100 congregants was never fully finished after the Shoah. The exterior of the building is at risk of collapsing. During rainy days, we need to put buckets between the pews as the ceiling leaks. The flooring of the benches is rotting away. We do not have cooling, nor heating and lighting does not work. The bimah never got its well-deserved restoration either. We need your help to continue this long-term multi-million-dollar renovation!
